Tranmere House: Pintoresca Place
Merlin Constructions was approached near completion of the design stage, providing advice on methodology and cost analyses. After much consultation between the client, builder, architect (Matt Williams Architects) and engineer (JSA Engineers), the design was finalised, leading onto construction.
During the build, we came up against rock excavation which dramatically slowed the process, particularly around construction of the ‘seemingly detached’ indoor pool. A significant amount of structural steel was required, including several rolled beams to suit the curves and angles created in this design. The use of newly released, unique products required extensive research and building knowledge to deliver this project.
Externally, the design incorporates large expanses of double-glazed windows, split-faced blocks, lots of highly charactered spotted gum cladding and natural travertine stone. Internally, subtle proportions of curved walls, refined joinery, the use of Tasmanian oak floors and exquisite bathroom tiles are used bringing this house to life. This project engages passive solar design principles and provides excellent thermal efficiency.
