South Hobart Extension: Winner 2015 HIA Awards Renovation/Addition $250,001-$500,000

The aim was to add a small footprint extension, alter the deck and renovate an existing poorly built and unpractical three-storey extension. The scope of works meant that almost all of the existing three-storey extension had to be demolished. The clients remained in residence throughout the construction process. Relocation of the staircase to the third level has resulted in the unique new staircase being a focal point of the new living room. An ensuite was added to the third floor bedroom and a new bathroom/laundry to the lower level. Large double glazed windows were installed between the exposed steel structure at the rear as part of the 12 square metre extension, providing much needed light, solar heat gain and expansive views of Mount Wellington.

An impressive bold structure, light and practical, fulfilling the lifestyle of a young family, masterfully built with attention to detail and to the satisfaction of the clients.
