Sandy Bay Pool House
Winner, 2020 HIA Awards
Renovation/Addition project
Merlin Constructions alongside MGAI worked on this project to renovate and extend a two-story home in the heart of Sandy Bay. The existing house had good structural integrity but was ready for a modern makeover.
Kate at MGAI came up with a great design to extend a stairwell and reconfigure to maximize the sun, space and provide the client with a high-end finish. The whole house was renovated in addition to an extension in the kitchen, dining and living areas.
The clients had realistic expectations and were very consistent in their approach, knowing precisely what they wanted. This made for an enjoyable and exciting project.
Merlin encountered various challenges from the outset as the gardens were in immaculate condition and needed to be preserved throughout the project. The house is in a built-up suburban area on a relatively flat site however all access was via this garden.
The new stairwell construction used a combination of structural steel, timber framing and large areas of glass. In addition to these structural elements, the use of elegant porcelain joinery, high-end electrical appointments, handcrafted cellar, Havwood flooring throughout and large format tiles, transformed this old house into a modern, cutting-edge home. With a great feel, we are sure the family will enjoy many poolside moments into the years ahead.
