Specialised Housing
This home was designed and built by Merlin Constructions for a young lady with a physical disability. The design brief was for a customised, modest, open plan home with individual requirements, separate studio, carport and storage space. Accessibility and other disability friendly features incorporated in this home were designed and built in close collaboration with our client, who had specific requirements rather than having to meet an overall standard. Crazy paving featuring in the external paths and leaf motifs embedded in the carport slab offer a touch of bespoke. The location of the site and a difficult neighbour posed problems with providing services such as the electricity supply. The site was first rated as ‘flame zone’ but with careful thinning of adjacent vegetation, an acceptable bushfire attack level was achieved (BAL 29). A well presented home was achieved despite the limitations and restrictions imposed by the BAL 29 rating.
